Armidale - Dorrigo via Wollomombi

Armidale also appears to have a selection of Art Deco buildings. This one houses an antiques and collectables shop with an interesting selection of items.

The pub next door is a great example; note the curved glass in the upper floor windows.
Dangars Falls are just outside Armidale.
The gorge cut by the river is remakable.
This particular type of wattle is found only in the Armidale region of northern NSW.
This is at the top of the falls before the river plunges into the gorge. It's quite peaceful at this point.
Cows. On the road. Again.
This weir, at Gara Gorge, is a component of the first hydro-electric scheme in NSW. It's associated with a larger dam, a flue and a small power station further downstream, most of which no longer exist.
This echidna, which we met on the bridge over Bakers Creek while returning from the Backers Creek Falls lookout, was not particularly pleased to see us.
And of course only uncurled and moved again once we were in the car and too far away for a decent photo.
The Wollomombi Falls are in fact at the conjunction of the Wollomombi and Chandlers Rivers. Chandlers is the one on the right that is more difficult to see.
We have abandoned any further walks for today, deciding that we need to head for some accomodation. We have found a nice bed and breakfast just out of Dorrigo, right next to the Dorrigo National Park.
A very tasty dinner was had at the Dorrigo pub.
A quite spectacular sunset rounded off the evening.
We've seen quite a variety of animals today. From the cows (above) to a variety of ducks, rabbits, sheep, horses, donkeys, wallabies, a fox (yesterday, along with loads of kangaroos), an Alsation maquerading as a small horse, and last but for me no means least, an owl was sitting on a post as we returned to the B&B. Unfortunately we had no camaras with us, and it's unlikely we'd have been able to take a picture as it was by then quite dark.
